Rail freight traffic between Russia and Armenia increased by 63.4% in the first seven months of 2026, compared to the same period last year, reaching 86,000 tons, the Russian Ministry of Transport reports.

The ministry presented the data following the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which took place Tuesday on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Russian Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin also participated in the talk.

The parties discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation, including in the transport sector.

“In the first 7 months of 2026, the amount of foreign trade cargo transportation between Russia and Armenia in the railway transport sector increased by 63.4% and amounted to 86 thousand tons,” the Russian Ministry of Transport said in a statement.

Bilateral and transit road transportation between the countries is carried out without permits within the EAEU territory, the ministry recalled.

In addition, in 2026, the parties initially exchanged 700 permits for road transportation to and from third countries.

Also, there are four regular bus routes between Russia and Armenia.
