Armenia is not going to abandon the law on the start of its European Union (EU) accession process, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced at Thursday’s press briefing.

According to him, the decision to initiate the law on Armenia’s joining the EU was made by the country’s civil society.

“The adoption of this law was the right step. And I assess the ongoing process positively. Who now says: ‘Who needs this Armenia? It has nowhere to go’ [i.e. the controversial statement by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko). And before the passing of the law, there were such statements,” Pashinyan said.

Also, he expressed a conviction that Armenia has achieved major successes in foreign policy also with the help of this law.

“There are partners who say: ‘Maybe cancel it?’ And I always answer it that it is impossible, because here there is not only the political will of the [Armenian] parliament, but also of the Armenian people," the premier of Armenia added.
