A new round of diplomatic tours by US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who visited Moscow for the fifth time since the start of the war and then traveled to Kyiv for the first time, did not bring significant progress on the issue of a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine, the Financial Times (FT) states.

The results of the talks in Kyiv, where Witkoff and Kushner met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, senior officials of his administration, as well as the national security advisers of the UK, France and Germany, led the parties to conclude that the war is unlikely to end before next winter, sources familiar with the situation told the FT.

According to them, US President Donald Trump's envoys had brought few new ideas and only tried to revive previous proposals, as well as reduce the differences between the positions of Kyiv and Moscow. The FT sources said Kushner and Witkoff had brought revised versions of earlier peace documents.

They had been amended to reflect changes in the situation since peace talks stalled in February after US strikes on Iran began. And while Witkoff said he felt “good” about the conversations in Moscow and Kyiv, they did not lead to a breakthrough in the five-year-old war, the FT adds.
