The Walking Dead has even reached the automotive industry, Jalopnik reports. In 2014, Hyundai had released a special version of the Tucson crossover dedicated to the popular zombie franchise. The car was created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first issue of The Walking Dead comics.
Tucson had received an exterior that fully corresponds to the occasion: the body was decorated with blood-red handprints and splashes, as if the zombies had already managed to get to the car.
The cabin had special emblems, floor and trunk mats, as well as a “survivor's kit,” which, according to the creators, should be useful in the first days after the start of the zombie apocalypse.
But this did not end Hyundai's collaboration with The Walking Dead. Back in 2012, the carmaker presented the Hyundai Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine at the San Diego Comic-Con.
The car was designed by The Walking Dead show's writer and creator, Robert Kirkman, and built by Design Craft company. The car had enhanced protection against zombies: a spiked bumper was installed in the front, the windows were closed with bars, and a gun was installed in the trunk. It was possible to fire through the roof without leaving the cabin.
A year later, at the New York Comic-Con, Hyundai showed two more cars for the fight against the living dead: the modified Veloster and Santa Fe models. The first was equipped with two chainsaws, a rifle and a machine gun, while the second had three machine guns, an automatic crossbow, a samurai sword, and barbed-wire windows.
Against the backdrop of these cars, with their bloody tracks and survival kit, the regular Tucson looks almost modest. But Hyundai's idea was quite consistent: if The Walking Dead ever really made it to the real world, the South Korean automaker wanted its fans to welcome them fully armed.
