Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed to carry out the delimitation of their state border from north to south, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told reporters.

According to him, Azerbaijan and Armenia have reached an agreement that the process of delimitation of their state border will be carried out from north to south, starting from the point of intersection of the borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia.

The Azerbaijani foreign minister noted that from the Azerbaijani side, the state commissions for border delimitation are headed by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev.

“Meetings and discussions of the commissions are held on a regular basis. The corresponding commission in Armenia is also headed by the [Armenian] deputy prime minister,” Bayramov noted.

According to him, numerous meetings have been held between these commissions of the two countries in the past period, and a number of documents regulating the activities of these commissions have been adopted and approved both in Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“There is an agreement on the issue of which direction the process of delimitation of our shared border should begin and proceed in the future. There is an agreement and mutual understanding that the [delimitation] work will begin from the more difficult, northern section of the border, at the intersection of the borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, and will proceed from north to south,” the Azerbaijani foreign minister stated.

“As for more specific details, then, naturally, all issues will be discussed as necessary and in due time, and it is expected that they will also be resolved. Issues related to these or those settlements will be discussed within the framework of the work of the border delimitation commission,” Bayramov added.
