Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: According to Zhoghovurd daily’s information, a decision has been made in the law enforcement system [of Armenia] to collect as many weapons as possible from former high-ranking officials. According to our sources, this is also about the weapons acquired and registered on a legal basis.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is filing lawsuits against former officials, demanding that they hand over to the state the weapons received even as donations, awards, or even by purchase.

Zhoghovurd daily’s sources link the process to the increased law enforcement actions against former officials in recent times. According to our information, there is a fear in the law enforcement system that the processes regarding the property, assets of former officials, (...), conditioned by political views, may pose a risk of personal reprisals or vendettas. It is precisely in order to reduce this risk that an attempt is being made to limit the availability of weapons among former officials as much as possible.
