The former consul general of Azerbaijan in Saint Petersburg, Russia, has been charged with smuggling.
Sultan Gasimov is accused of particularly large-scale gold smuggling.
The respective criminal case was investigated by the Azerbaijani prosecutor's office.
Gasimov was charged under the relevant articles of the criminal code of Azerbaijan.
The investigation has been completed, and the case materials have been sent to court.
The case will soon be heard in the grave crimes court in the Azerbaijani capital city of Baku.
Sultan Gasimov was appointed the first Consul General of Azerbaijan in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009, but was dismissed from that position in 2016.
And on May 3, 2016, he was appointed Consul General of Azerbaijan in Saint Petersburg, Russia, but was recalled from this position on October 21, 2024.
