There is a negative information background towards Azerbaijan in the Russian media and social media, Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Rahman Mustafayev said in an interview with Lenta.ru.

“Naturally, along with positive moments, negative ones also appear, disagreements arise. I have to note the negative information background towards Azerbaijan, which is formed by some Russian analysts, bloggers, and journalists,” Mustafayev said.

In his words, Baku drew Moscow’s attention to a number of statements regarding Azerbaijan, which, in the opinion Azerbaijani authorities, harm the strategic partnership and allied relations of the two countries. Also, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia called on Russia to “respond in principle” and take concrete actions to correct the situation.

Mustafayev noted that Baku's position on the Ukrainian crisis remains unchanged. According to him, "Azerbaijan firmly and consistently supports the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders of states."

The Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia added that the acute phase of the crisis in relations between Moscow and Baku was already in the past.
