The Constitutional Court (CC) of Armenia on Tuesday will begin examining, in a written procedure, the agreement on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) regional transport project.

The CC must decide whether Armenia’s commitments under this document comply with the country’s constitution.

The rapporteur for the case is CC Judge Edgar Shatiryan.

The TRIPP framework agreement was initialed by Armenia and the US on May 26. The signing process was completed on June 4 with the signatures of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

In July, the Armenian government approved the draft to ratify the agreement.

If the CC of Armenia finds the country’s commitments under the document to be in accordance with the Armenian constitution, the agreement will be sent to the National Assembly of Armenia for ratification.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had earlier stated that the Armenian government wanted to move forward with TRIPP implementation as quickly as possible, expressing hope that work on site could begin this fall. But Armenia's ambassador to the US, and then Azerbaijan's foreign minister, recently indicated that construction would likely begin early next year.
