The Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes as follow, in particular: According to the Zhoghovurd daily’s information, [Armenian PM] Nikol Pashinyan will travel to Germany on September 18 to receive the Hessian Peace Prize.

The visit has already been officially confirmed. The parliament of the State of Hesse has published not only the day of the award ceremony, but also Pashinyan's full-day program planned in Germany.

The Hessian Peace Prize is awarded to Pashinyan for his efforts aimed at establishing peace in the South Caucasus, the development of democratic institutions in Armenia, and policy of rapprochement with the European Union. The German side also highlights the Velvet Revolution of 2018 [in Armenia], the peace process with Azerbaijan, and the emphasis on non-violent policy as justification for Pashinyan’s “peacemaking” activities.

The prize also has a monetary component: 25 thousand euros. It has been awarded since 1994 by the Albert-Osswald-Stiftung to individuals who have contributed to the prevention of wars, violence and conflicts, and the establishment of peace.

And here a noteworthy parallel arises: Pashinyan is being awarded a peace prize at a time when the topic of peace has become one of the most important propaganda topics not only in foreign policy, but also in domestic politics for his power.

In its official explanation [for awarding this prize to Pashinyan], the German side also highlights the process with Azerbaijan within the framework of Pashinyan’s peacemaking policy. That is, on September 18 in Wiesbaden, Pashinyan will receive another international assessment for promoting the peace agenda.

However, the question arises: what is the real cost and result of this “peace policy” in Armenia, and to what extent does the international award reflect the assessment of this policy within Armenia’s society?

It is also noteworthy that this is not the first such high-profile international assessment on the topic of peace for Pashinyan in 2026. In February, he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev jointly had received the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity in connection with the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
