The time for maneuvering is over for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Opposition “Armenia” bloc MP, opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party member Ishkhan Saghatelyan, stated this at a press briefing on Wednesday.

The opposition lawmaker recalled that Pashinyan had spoken and pledged various things in Washington and Moscow, in meetings with the leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan, and now they are telling him to make up his mind.

“I don’t think he will be able to. As a result, the country is facing a difficult choice,” Saghatelyan added.

The Armenian opposition MP recalled that during the pre-election period, the “Armenia” bloc was telling the people that Pashinyan will do the same with Armenia’s economy as with its security.

“Armenia is not ready to leave the EAEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union], it will have serious consequences. If the price of [Russian natural] gas increases, it will be a very heavy blow for Armenia," the opposition legislator said, ironically recalling the ruling party member’s statement that in the event of a rise in the price of Russian natural gas, Armenia will increase the leasing fee for the Russian military base in the country.

"This is also an adventurism. And then they [i.e. the Armenian authorities] will quickly say that they are ready to buy [natural] gas from Azerbaijan. By the way, if the current authorities of Armenia view Azerbaijan as an alternative source of energy supplies, that says it all. How can inimical states—a threat to our state—become an alternative source of supplies of goods of strategic importance [to Armenia]?" asked Saghatelyan.
