Yerevan is subjecting Armenia’s enterprises in which Russia has invested billions of dollars to “raider seizure,” Russian Security Council secretary Sergey Shoigu stated at a meeting of the presidium of the Scientific and Expert Council of the Russian Security Council.

Shoigu said that in the 1990s, Russia had saved Armenia from economic and energy collapse, and during the ten years of its current membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Armenia’s economy has grown almost threefold, whereas the current Armenian authorities have adopted a policy of severing ties with Russia and strengthening cooperation with the West.

“An unfriendly treatment and blatant double standards are being applied to Russian business operating in Armenia. What is happening to enterprises and entire sectors [in Armenia] in which Russia has invested billions [of dollars] is difficult to call anything other than a ‘raider seizure,’” Shoigu noted.

In his words, along with all this, Yerevan is putting forward “blatantly absurd” arguments.

“For example, the fact that if Russian management of Armenian railways continues, Armenia loses the opportunity to integrate into international railway networks,” added the secretary of the Russian Security Council.
