An Armenian National Assembly (NA) delegation, led by NA Deputy Speaker Samvel Balasanyan, was in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on May 15-18, to attend the 37th Plenary Session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The attendees underscored the model law On Scientific Ethics during Scientific Activities.
Also, the CIS observers’ report on Armenia’s May 6 NA elections was presented. The observers highly evaluated the course of the elections. Specifically, they underscored the provision of equal opportunities for all participating political forces to be able to carry out their campaign and for their coverage, and the high-level preparedness of the electoral commissions. The observers stated there was a sound competition in Armenia.
In addition, the Armenian NA delegation partook in the sessions of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council and the three committees. Important discussions were held on establishing a CIS Interparliamentary Youth Assembly, and Armenia’s Youth Parliament was observed as a model attempt in this regard.
The Armenian MPs also participated in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council and the plenary session, during which Armenia’s NA elections were likewise highly assessed.
Within the framework of 20th anniversary of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and 10th anniversary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Armenian NA delegation was honored with medals and awards for its active and effective work.
While in Saint Petersburg, NA Deputy Speaker Samvel Balasanyan also was on hand at the event marking the 230th birth anniversary of Armenian general, Valerian Madatov.
