A note of protest was handed to the Japanese side in Moscow and Tokyo regarding the deployment of US-made Typhon ground-based missile systems—which are designed to launch medium- and short-range missiles—on Kyushu island, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

The document specifically emphasized that Tokyo has once again taken this step despite repeated demarches by the Russian side to explain its concerns regarding the threats to national security, regional peace and stability posed by the presence of this type of weaponry in the Japanese archipelago. It was emphasized that the forward deployment of the above-mentioned installations by Japan on its territory is unacceptable, regardless of the pretext, duration, and methods of their deployment.

The Japanese side was demanded to stop such practices and remove the above-mentioned complexes from its territory. At the same time, it was stressed that it is necessary for the Japanese leadership to fully accept the results of World War II, including their territorial aspects, which relate to the South Kuril Islands, and to abandon the course of remilitarization.
