Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin has announced that the turnout of Russian citizens in Armenia in the Russian State Duma elections is high. He noted that as of 15:00 local time, 1,808 people had voted at two polling stations in Armenia: the Russian Embassy in Yerevan and the Russian Consulate General in Gyumri.

“The voter turnout is quite large. People are actively coming,” Kopyrkin told reporters on election day.

As per the Russian ambassador to Armenia, this high interest is due to the fact that the Russian State Duma elections are “a very important event in the life of the country and its citizens.”

He noted that a significant number of Russian citizens live or temporarily stay in Armenia and want to express their position.

“We [i.e. Russia] are going through a very responsible, not an easy phase in our history. And in this context, the elections certainly have a special significance and a special meaning,” Kopyrkin stated.

The Russian ambassador to Armenia informed that the Russian Embassy in Yerevan and the Consulate General in Gyumri have organized voting for Russian citizens residing or staying in Armenia. Necessary measures have been taken to hold the elections in accordance with Russian legislation, as well as to ensure security and order.

“At this point, I must state that, in general, there were no emergency situations. Let’s hope that they will not arise,” Kopyrkin said.

Also, he thanked the Armenian side for ensuring security around the Russian Embassy, noting that security measures are especially noticeable amid a large influx of voters.

Polling stations operating at the Russian Embassy in Yerevan and the Russian Consulate General in Gyumri shall be open until 20:00 local time. Answering a question about the current voter turnout compared to the 2021 elections, Kopyrkin assumed that it would be higher.

“I think it will be higher. Well, let’s wait for the end of the vote,” said the Russian ambassador to Armenia.

In addition, Kopyrkin announced that the vote count and the transmission of the voting results will be carried out in accordance with the established procedure. He reported that observers are present at the polling stations.

“Everything that is necessary in accordance with the legislation will be done. I guarantee that it will be an honest, transparent count,” the Russian ambassador to Armenia stated.
