Russia wants to believe that the citizens of Armenia will be able to objectively assess the risk of the European integration adventurism in which they are currently being drawn, Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Affairs of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“The final choice of the country’s [i.e. Armenia’s] development path, in any case, remains in the hands of the citizens of Armenia. In this regard, we [i.e. Russia] want to believe that they will be able to objectively assess the risk of the ‘European integration’ adventurism in which they are currently being drawn,” Maslennikov said.

In March 2025, the Armenian parliament had passed a law on the launch of the country’s accession process to the European Union (EU). The Russian side, however, had noted that it is impossible to be in both the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) customs union at the same time.
