Hraparak daily of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: Davoud Yayji, who was recently appointed as Iran’s new Consul General in [Armenia’s] Kapan [city], will assume his duties today and visit Kapan, replacing Morteza Abedin Varamin, who was Iran’s first Consul General in Kapan and was appointed in 2022.

The new consul is an Azerbaijani speaker, local opposition circles say about his appointment that he is not a professional diplomat, does not have the appropriate credentials, and was appointed to this position with legal and ethical violations. Yayji, without going through the diplomatic service's rank system (embassy attaché, third to first secretary, third to first counselor), was appointed to this position, which is considered unacceptable.

According to these circles, the presence of an inexperienced diplomat could lead to a decrease in Iran's regional influence, especially during this period of the implementation of TRIPP [i.e. the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity regional transport project].
