Yemeni's Houthis have threatened to attack American facilities and interests in the Middle East if the US intervenes in the Yemeni conflict on the side of Saudi Arabia.

The movement's military adviser, Abed Mohammed al-Thawr, told AFP about this. According to him, the Houthis consider a possible US attempt to establish control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait a "red line."

"If America dares to intervene militarily with its fleets or tries to take control of Bab al-Mandab, it is a red line for them and anyone else... we will fight over it," al-Thawr said. Also, he threatened American interests in the region if Saudi Arabia is provided with US military support.

“If America gambles on supporting Saudi Arabia with airstrikes or air support... We will consider any American interests around us to be targets and we will not exclude anything,” the Houthi representative said.

The statement came amid reports of possible US intervention in the aforesaid conflict. The Bab al-Mandab Strait connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is of strategic importance for international shipping. Control over it enables having an influence over one of the most important sea routes between Europe and Asia.
