Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s US visit is being publicly presented in the [Armenian] authorities’ sphere as an important diplomatic process, while sources of the Zhoghovurd daily report that the authorities’ circles are still cautious about the specific results expected from the visit.

Pashinyan is in New York on September 22-25 to participate in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. That is, this is not about an official bilateral visit to Washington; the main platform is the UN General Assembly.

One of the most notable episodes of the visit was the meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on September 23 at the “Turkish House” in New York. The meeting was held behind closed doors, and the full content of the discussions was not made public.

According to Zhoghovurd's sources, this meeting is considered one of the important episodes of the visit in the [Armenian] authorities’ circles, but so far there is no public information about any specific agreement on the [re]opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, the establishment of diplomatic relations, or other practical steps.

The factor of US President Donald Trump is also noteworthy. Pashinyan participated in the reception organized on behalf of Trump for the heads of delegations to the UN General Assembly. However, at the moment, no official announcement has been made about a separate Pashinyan-Trump bilateral meeting.

Zhoghovurd's sources in the [Armenian] authorities note that the topic of deepening [Armenia’s] relations with the US is an important political message for the authorities, but they are waiting for the end of the visit and possible new meetings to assess the final results of this visit.

In New York, Pashinyan participated also in the Concordia Summit, speaking about peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, regional communications, and the implementation of the TRIPP project.

Thus, Pashinyan's visit to the US is still in progress. There are meetings and announcements, but public information about specific new agreements for Armenia is still limited.

Therefore, the main question remains open: will Pashinyan return to Yerevan from New York on September 25 only from meetings and speeches, or with a package of tangible new agreements for Armenia?
