The Information and Public Relations Center of the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia has published a report “On the crisis that has arisen in the Church and ways to resolve it as a result of the activities of the de facto head and a number of high-ranking clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.”

The report states, in particular, that its preparation stems from the Armenian government’s 2026–2031 program and was prepared by the Information and Public Relations Center on the instructions of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The report documents 16 points that express the “crisis” in the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.

Some of them are as follows:

• Violation of the vow of celibacy and impunity for violations of good conduct,

• Arbitrary persecution and defrocking of clergy,

• Financial opacity and misuse of church property,

• Kinship ordinations and clan rule,

• Politicization of the Holy Altar and the spread of external influences,

• The 27-year failure of the National Ecclesiastical Assembly and the absence of a unified Constitution,

• Divisions in the church dioceses of the Armenian diaspora.

Also, the report proposes a five-step roadmap for overcoming this “crisis.”
