Azerbaijani political scientist Bahruz Samadov, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in Azerbaijan for high treason—i.e. correspondence with Armenians, attempted suicide during a recess in the supreme court session, local media report.

The court was considering Samadov's cassation appeal. During the hearing, the defense attorney filed a motion that the charges against Samadov under the article of high treason be dropped. The court, however, denied the motion. After that, Samadov filed several petitions, but the court denied them, too.

And in protest, Bahruz Samadov cut his right hand.

An ambulance was called to the court.
