Tehran is ready for both a new escalation of aggression and a diplomatic settlement of the conflict with Washington, leaving the choice to US President Donald Trump, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, NBC News reports.

“We [i.e. Iran] are fully prepared for the time for the war to be resumed, and I repeat, we stand firm in the face of any new aggression, even if it comes to a doomsday war,” Araghchi said in an interview with NBC News. “At the same time, we stand ready for diplomacy. It is up to President Trump to choose.”

Commenting on Trump’s rejection of the latest proposals from the Iranian side regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi noted that Tehran was not officially informed about this rejection through mediators.

He stressed that Iran wants the reopening of the strait as part of an agreement to end the conflict and in exchange for the unfreezing of its assets.

“We want to be able to sell our oil,” Araghchi said.

According to Iran’s foreign minister, Tehran’s conditions are “not new” and were things the US has already committed itself to previously, referring to the memorandum of understanding that the two countries signed in June.
