Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Alexey Likhachev, director general of Russian state corporation Rosatom, and the delegation he led, Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed from the PM’s office.

The interlocutors discussed the work on extending the operation period of the second power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) and the proposals of the Russian side on the construction of a new nuclear power unit in Armenia.

The premier noted that the Armenian government continues discussions on the proposals received from international partners on the construction of a new nuclear power unit and a respective decision will be made in the near future. Pashinyan emphasized that the final decision will be of an exclusively economic nature, taking into account the cost, quality, safety, terms, and guarantees.

In turn, Likhachev noted that they have constructive cooperation with Armenian partners, including in extending the lifetime of the operating power unit of the ANPP.

Next, the Rosatom director general presented details on their proposals and possible mechanisms for the construction of a new nuclear plant, as well as small and medium-capacity power units in Armenia.
