Rosatom is ready to engage international manufacturers, including those from the European Union (EU) and Asian countries, in the possible construction of a new nuclear power unit in Armenia, this Russian state corporation's director general Alexey Likhachev told reporters after his meeting with the Armenian leadership in Yerevan

According to him, Rosatom proposes to implement the aforesaid future project as an international joint one with the participation of various suppliers.

“We [i.e. Rosatom] are ready to consider this as an international integrated project with the involvement of global suppliers,” Likhachev noted.

He said that Rosatom already has such experience and is implementing projects that use technologies and products from various countries.

It has not yet been specified which companies may participate in the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Armenia.

According to the head of Rosatom, everything will depend on the wishes of the Armenian side—the customer, the government, and specialists conducting technical talks.

Likhachev noted that the choice of technology, supplier, and project implementation model is solely up to Armenia.

Earlier, he informed that Rosatom had conveyed to Armenia a proposal to build a new nuclear power unit with a capacity of at least 1 GW and with the VVER-1000 technology.
