A man armed with an automatic rifle entered one of the village houses and injured the landlady in the presence of her three children. Ruben Manucharyan, the mayor of Armenia’s Shaki village, said this in an interview with Azatutyun, the RFE/RL’s Armenian service, referring to the incident in which an Azerbaijani soldier had crossed the Armenian border and shot a Shaki resident woman in the leg.

“They caught him, the law enforcement officers took him, I can’t say if he shot [her] or if he hit [her] with a sharp instrument. When we entered the scene of the incident, we saw traces of blood, but the woman’s life is not at risk,” the village mayor added. Separately a Shaki resident told Sputnik Armenia that the aforesaid Azerbaijani soldier had spent the night at the house of a resident of Shaki, taking advantage of their absence.

“The wife and three children did not spend the night at home, after school the woman returned home with the children, saw the Azerbaijani, made a noise, the Azerbaijani shot the woman,” the resident said.

According to this resident, the woman was able to resort to self-defense, used a knife against the Azerbaijani, who fled, hid in the barn, and he was found there.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that an incident occurred today in Shaki village of the Sisian enlarged community of Armenia’s Syunik Province. Residents of Sisian are telling Armenian News-NEWS.am that according to their information, an Azerbaijani has crossed the border for four to five days, but they have not been able to find him.

And today, a young Shaki resident of girl was shot in the leg yet under unknown circumstances. “The girl’s name is Ani, she is a resident of Shaki, it’s good that the wound is in the leg.

The entire troops are in Shaki at the moment, people are terrified, intimidated,” a resident of Shaki told Armenian News-NEWS.am. And the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia had issued a statement in this regard and noted that the State Security Service of Azerbaijan on Tuesday informed the NSS that a serviceman of an Azerbaijani military unit had left his place of military service under unknown circumstances. It was not ruled out that he could have illegally crossed the border of Armenia.

After that, the respective authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan carried out search operations. An at 14:15 on Thursday, 112 emergency hotline of Armenia received a call that an Armenian citizen had been shot in the leg in Shaki village of Syunik Province. Armenian police teams left for the scene.

Measures have been taken to investigate the incident. It turned out that this crime was committed by the aforesaid Azerbaijani serviceman, who has been arrested. The details of the incident have also been presented to the Azerbaijani side.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated criminal proceedings in connection with this incident.
