Hraparak daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: [PM] Nikol Pashinyan is in a new search—the "sovereigns," who raised a strong anti-Russian wave in recent weeks, are retreating again.
Yesterday, at a [press] briefing, Pashinyan announced the change in RA's position on the issue of a new nuclear power plant [(NPP)]. "I have said dozens of times before that we do not need anything more than a modular nuclear power plant; this has been our position. But now we must realize that the modular will most likely not be enough for us," allegedly the reason for this change is the construction of artificial intelligence [(AI)] factories in the country, for which it has become necessary to think about importing electricity.
One might think they started building AI factories [in Armenia] yesterday. Meanwhile, in May, during the [parliamentary election] campaign, he [i.e. Pashinyan] was speaking exclusively about the modular one, which is offered by the West.
Discussions on the new NPP [of Armenia] continue. The RA government has committed to deciding, by the end of 2027, on the technology for building the nuclear power plant.
Yesterday, Pashinyan received Alexey Likhachev, director general of Rosatom [Russian state] corporation; they discussed the proposals of the Russian side on the construction of a new nuclear power unit in RA.
Now, when there is great pressure from the Russian side, and there is even talk of turning off the [Russian natural] gas supply [to Armenia], Pashinyan, apparently, has “put into reverse” and accepted the Russian proposal.
