Azerbaijan calls on Armenia’s government to actively work towards preparing its society for peace. Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant of the president of Azerbaijan and head of foreign policy affairs department of the presidential administration, stated this at the CAMCA 2026 regional conference being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
According to him, Baku is concerned about some trends in Armenian society; in particular, the presence of forces with significant influence.
“Another worrying factor is that revanchist sentiments persist among Armenian youth; this is an important circumstance. That is why we [i.e. Azerbaijan] call also on Armenia’s government to actively work towards preparing its society for peace,” he said.
Hajiyev said that there is a strategic determination on the part of Azerbaijan to continue the peace agenda, consolidate it in practice, and build an architecture of peace that will be able to ensure long-term peace and stability for the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples.
"That is why we always say that we want to conclude this peace not only with Armenia’s government and the country's prime minister, but also with the Armenian people. And that is why we continue to expect an amendment to the constitution of Armenia. Of course, this is an internal matter [of Armenia], and we completely refrain from interfering in that process," added the assistant to the Azerbaijani president.
