At the Third Committee General Debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, reaffirmed Armenia’s support for the further strengthening of the UN human rights system, with a view to preventing human rights violations and ensuring accountability.
Ambassador Hovhannisyan highlighted Armenia’s efforts across a range of areas, including strengthening human rights mechanisms, advancing gender equality, protecting the rights of children, and promoting the prevention agenda, informs the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN.
Turning to regional developments, he noted that, as efforts to consolidate peace continue, a number of outstanding humanitarian issues remain to be addressed. These include the continued detention of 19 Armenians in Azerbaijan, the need to clarify the fate and whereabouts of missing persons, as well as issues related to cases of enforced disappearances.
Addressing these issues will contribute to strengthening peace, building trust and supporting reconciliation in the region.
