Tbilisi does not consider the TRIPP route as a competitor to the transport routes passing through Georgia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said. According to him, this new route, on the contrary, can complement the Middle Corridor amid increasing cargo flow.

“TRIPP is not a competitor to our route. It will, in fact, be complementary, taking into account the trends that are observed in the Middle Corridor today,” Kobakhidze said on Imedi television. The Georgian premier said that since 2020, cargo flow in the Middle Corridor has increased sevenfold, which created an objective need for diversification of transport routes.

“We [i.e. Georgia] do not believe that the TRIPP route or any other route can create a significant problem for traditional routes passing through Georgia,” Kobakhidze said. He noted that Georgia hopes for the further growth of the country’s transit potential through the development of infrastructure.
