Estonia is moving its elite military units permanently closer to its border with Russia as part of its transition to an “active defense” strategy, the Financial Times reports.

The Estonian 1st Brigade is planned to be deployed about 50 km from the Russian border. Facilities for the permanent deployment of soldiers are being built in the nearby city.

The deployment involves concentrating the main forces of the brigade in the immediate vicinity of Estonia’s eastern borders.

In parallel with the redeployment of troops, Estonia has embarked on a large-scale engineering fortification of border areas.

According to the Estonian World portal, Estonia has begun installing the first concrete bunkers on its southeastern border. This work is carried out within the framework of a large-scale regional project called Baltic Defense Line.
