Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, during a meeting with visiting Armenian Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, stated that the Islamic Republic’s unchanging policy is to develop and strengthen relations with its neighboring countries at practical and strategic levels, Pars Today reports.
“I hope that in the near future, a strategic cooperation agreement between Iran and Armenia will be agreed upon once and for all. In addition to bilateral relations, there are also regional issues in the Caucasus, including transport routes, which Iran and Armenia can discuss.
Today, the Caucasus region, more than ever, needs peace, and this must be ensured by strengthening official borders. Experience has shown that interference by extra-regional forces can lead to instability.
For example, in the Persian Gulf region, we see that foreign powers have come, and some countries thought that their presence could ensure their security. But as a result, instability has arisen.
These powers only seek to gain access to the opportunities and resources of the countries of the region and pursue their own interests. We hope that the exchange of views and stable, consistent cooperation between the two countries in the political and economic spheres will contribute to the creation of opportunities in transit, energy, and other areas and will yield practical results," the speaker of the Iranian Parliament said, in particular.
