Zhoghovurd newspaper of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes as follows, in particular: Within the framework of criminal cases initiated as a result of political whims, a number of well-known political figures and former high-ranking figures are currently in the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary, which was previously known as the NSS [i.e. National Security Service] "basement."

According to exclusive information of Zhoghovurd daily, they are mainly in different cells. In particular, RA second president Robert Kocharyan is in a small solitary cell, SRC [i.e. State Revenue Committee] former chairman Gagik Khachatryan is also in a separate cell, PAP [i.e. opposition Prosperous Armenia Party] leader [and businessman] Gagik Tsarukyan is also being held separately.

According to Zhoghovurd’s information, leader of [opposition] Mother Armenia [party] Andranik Tevanyan is also being held separately.

Robert Kocharyan's son, Sedrak Kocharyan, is the only one of the mentioned persons who is in the same cell with another detainee.

Let us remind that Robert Kocharyan was arrested on August 27 on charges of abuse of official authority, receiving a bribe in particularly large amounts, and money laundering, which, according to lawyers, are trumped up.

Sedrak Kocharyan was arrested on August 26 on false charges of money laundering in particularly large amounts, abuse of official authority, and receiving a bribe in particularly large amounts.

Gagik Khachatryan was arrested on September 2 within the framework of a criminal proceeding on receiving a bribe in particularly large amounts, and money laundering.

Gagik Tsarukyan was arrested on July 7 on charges of fraud in particularly large amounts and money laundering, and later a charge was also added for tax evasion.
