Georgian customs officers have prevented an attempt to import a large batch of undeclared silverware across the Azerbaijani border, the Revenue Service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance informed, Georgia Online reports.

The contraband was discovered during a thorough inspection of a truck driven by a Georgian citizen at the Red Bridge customs checkpoint. The stash contained 9,038 grams of silverware.

The aforesaid service estimated their customs value at 38,289 lari, or about $15,000. The discovered cargo included sets of silver spoons with carved handles and enameled decor, goblets, small cups and glasses, gilded dessert spatulas, and carved tongs.

Also, customs officers found a large number of ashtrays with gilded rims, cups with legs, engraved jewelry boxes, and jewelry. The contraband was seized.

The case materials, along with the found items, were transferred to Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, which will continue the investigation.
