Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan had a quite successful visit to Iran, and this was a good opportunity for the parties to discuss existing matters in cooperation, Iranian ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami told reporters on Friday.

“In addition to the matters that were discussed in the context of cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, and cultural spheres, a meeting between the Iranian president and the Armenian prime minister also took place yesterday, which was once again an opportunity for the parties to discuss existing issues, as well as to indicate further guidelines for the development of cooperation in the future.

The telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of the two countries can also be viewed in the context of international consultations and discussions between the [two] countries," Shirgholami added.

"Relations between the two countries are of a strategic nature. So, such discussions, consultations, and contacts are very important, because during them it is possible to discuss the current situation, as well as already indicate the roadmap for further cooperation. It is an opportunity for the parties to express their views on various issues," noted the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.

"Such discussions are held in a very transparent and sincere atmosphere, and it is in this atmosphere that the parties pursue the implementation of the tasks already discussed," Shirgholami added. To the remark that it is very rare that just after the visit of the Armenian foreign minister there is even a phone call, and asked whether there was a topic that needed to be discussed additionally, the Iranian diplomat said that there is nothing surprising in that.

"The two sides, taking into account the various directions of international cooperation, need such contacts to be continuous, to be frequent. Sometimes it happens that there is a need to have two contacts or discussions in one day. During my activities inside Armenia, sometimes there is a need to have two discussions on a matter with the same official in one day," stated the Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
