Azerbaijan did not strike at an already defeated adversary and offered peace after restoring its sovereignty. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated this during his address at Seventh Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) being held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
“We [i.e. Azerbaijan] did not strike a defeated state. We did not stoop to the level of the barbarians and child killers who caused so much suffering to our people,” the Azerbaijani leader stated.
According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan offered peace to Armenia and has been living under conditions of peace for a little over a year.
“This peace remains fragile and must be protected and strengthened,” the Azerbaijani president added.
