Relations between Turkey and Armenia continue to move towards normalization with increasing momentum. Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli on Friday told this to reporters on the sidelines of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, in Yerevan.
“The normalization process began in January 2022. Since March 2026, it has gained momentum thanks to Turkish Airlines flights [to Yerevan]. Therefore, its reflection on the ground is that our president’s meetings with [Armenian PM] Mr. [Nikol] Pashinyan continue in a way that will elevate this normalization to a higher level.
Of course, as Turkey, we want to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the region; and given the current situation, we continue this process.
I hope that the acceleration of the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia will bring very important achievements for both countries and the region.
We have come to Yerevan today for the COP. This is a very good meeting. I hope that the messages given here will make the relevant countries of the world receive those messages. In addition, next month is COP 31 in Antalya. There, too, very important messages will be sent to the whole world. These are all important events for the development of peace, stability, and prosperity in the world. Important messages," the Turkish official said.
