Armenia does not provide its Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) partners with information about the specific timeframes and plans for European Union (EU) accession. This is evidenced by a report of the members of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which was reviewed by RIA Novosti.
Representatives of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council have submitted a report on the possible consequences of the EAEU Treaty’s termination for Armenia.
“Despite the adoption of legislative acts that directly provide for the accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union (which is incompatible with membership in the EAEU), other EAEU member states, their economic entities and citizens do not have information about the specific timeframes and plans for the implementation of this decision,” the document states.
In addition, the report records Yerevan's intention to continue membership in the EAEU, while simultaneously working towards EU membership, as long as the Armenian leadership believes such a combination is possible.
