Israeli President Isaac Herzog has condemned the attacks against the Armenian community in Jerusalem, the Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem has informed in a statement.
“The Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem welcomes the response of Israeli President Mr. Isaac Herzog to our letter of 7 August 2026, in which we expressed our deep concern over the attacks against the Armenian community and called for effective measures to protect its members and institutions.
In his letter dated 16 September 2026, President Herzog addressed the seriousness of these incidents and expressed his commitment to preventing such acts from happening again.
He also reaffirmed the importance of the Armenian community, which has been a valued part of Jerusalem for generations. In a particularly important passage, the President stated: ‘It is important for me to emphasize that I will do everything in my power, with all my heart and soul, to exhaust the measures available to me and prevent such incidents from recurring.
I am convinced that these people do not represent the face of Israel, and that their actions do not reflect our values or our commitment to the Armenian community — an ancient and dear community, a good and valued neighbour in Jerusalem for generations, and one that is close to the Jewish public in the Old City.’
The Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem welcomes these words and considers the President’s response an important acknowledgment of the concerns raised by our Committee and the Armenian community. We express our appreciation to President Isaac Herzog for his response and his commitment to addressing this issue.
We hope that his words will be followed by meaningful action to safeguard the security, dignity, and rights of the Armenian community in Jerusalem,” reads the statement by the Armenian National Committee of Jerusalem.
