The Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes as follows, in particular: According to Zhoghovurd daily’s sources close to the authorities, [PM] Nikol Pashinyan’s statement yesterday that snap parliamentary elections may be held if the constitutional amendments process is not implemented has caused serious concern within the authorities.

The thing is that many representatives of the authorities, according to information, believed that after the new [parliamentary] elections [held on June 7], they had at least four to five years to remain in their positions and work peacefully. However, Pashinyan’s statement showed that the situation could change at any time, and the political future of the [incumbent] authorities is not as guaranteed as they could have imagined.

According to our information, discussions [on the matter] in at least three different groups within the authorities’ circles were quite heated. Representatives of the authorities have tried to understand what awaits them, what steps Pashinyan may take, and whether it is necessary to prepare for a new electoral process.

The situation is further complicated due to the fact that Pashinyan, as some representatives of the authorities’ circles believe, may make a rather abrupt decision and go to snap parliamentary elections even in the case when part of his [political] team is not ready for such developments.
