Honda may significantly change the design of its Accord sedan in the 2028 model year, Motor 1 reports.

The revamped model will have a more futuristic look, inspired by the concepts of Honda 0 Series electric cars. The Japanese automaker, however, has not yet officially confirmed this information. The current, eleventh generation of the Accord was introduced in the 2023 model year. The car has a restrained design and two powertrains, including a hybrid.

But according to sources familiar with the company's plans, Honda is already preparing a large-scale revamp of its popular sedan in the coming years. Earlier, Automotive News reported that the car would have a “modern and futuristic design.” The exterior of the future model is expected to be related to the Honda 0 Series concept, which is distinguished by its wedge-shaped outlines and laconic lines.

In early 2026, the company presented also an unnamed prototype, which gave rise to speculation about the possible emergence of a new version of the Accord in the form of a liftback or raised hatchback. In the exterior, the car resembles a modern interpretation of the Accord Crosstour model, which was produced for a limited time. According to preliminary data, the revamped Accord will have narrower headlights, a completely redesigned front end, and a liftback body.

At the rear, under the stylized Honda inscription, there may be a light strip stretching the entire width of the body. A large screen of the multimedia system is expected to be installed in the cabin, while retaining the physical elements of climate and audio system controls.

At the same time, the car will most likely retain the current Honda HA platform, which is also used in some other models of the brand, including the CR-V. The transition to the next generation of the Accord is expected to occur only in the early 2030s. At that time, the model may completely abandon internal combustion engines in favor of hybrid powertrains.

One of the main changes may be Honda's new hybrid system, the introduction of which the company plans to begin in 2027. It is a development of the two-engine scheme and will be able to work in conjunction with the existing 1.5- and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines.

Currently, the base version of the Accord is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 192 horsepower. The hybrid version uses a two-engine powertrain with a capacity of 204 horsepower.

Also, Honda is developing new four-cylinder engines, which should eventually replace the current units. Their first presentation is also expected in a version with a raised body. If the information from the sources is confirmed, the revamped sedan will be unveiled in the second half of 2027 as a car for the 2028 model year.

Its first full launch may take place as early as early 2027. The starting price of the revamped Accord is expected to be about $30 thousand.
