YEREVAN.- Settlement of the Karabakh conflict requires courage and decisiveness of the conflicting parties’ leaders, said EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Philippe Lefort.

The envoy said the Karabakh conflict considerably limits possibilities of regional progress and integration.

“However, there are no unresolved conflicts, irrespective of complexity, solution can always be found,” he said addressing the professors of Yerevan State University on Friday.

In case of Karabakh conflict, the Madrid Principles drafted by the OSCE Minsk Group underlie the solution. In its turn, the EU is ready to implement these principles, he added.

He called not to rely much on the foreign partners. They will be first of all pursuing their interests.

“Imposed decisions are fragile and may raise legitimacy issues,” Lefort emphasized.

The political leaders of both states bear responsibility for the process, the envoy said adding that the leaders must make decisions.
