YEREVAN. - A few months ago Turkey had announced that it would terminate relations with the EU during the period of Cyprus’s governance if the Cyprus issue is not settled until then, expert Ruben Melkonyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “As a matter of fact, Turkey has fulfilled its promise. I think that the announcement is mere propaganda, and even if such disposition is to cause damages, Ankara has thoroughly reviewed all its steps, has considered all the pros and contras and the dividends from this step will exceed the damage,” the expert stated. According to Ruben Melkonyan, Turkey is sure of its authority in the West and the USA and that is why it allows itself to make harsh statements. “Such statements prove the double standards of Turkey's policy,” Ruben Melkonyan mentioned adding that Turkey has occupied a part of Cyprus but on the other hand it does not recognize the self-determination right on Nagorno-Karabakh’s nation. Such a disposition should be a warning for the international community.
