YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday signed a decree, whereby Colonel Samvel Ghukasyan is appointed Military Police Chief of the Rep. of Armenia Ministry of Defense. 

With this order, Colonel Ghukasyan’s military service term is extended until May 9, 2013, the President’s official website informs.

Former Military Police Chief Armen Sahakyan and head of Yerevan garrison of the Military Police Ruben Nersisyan were dismissed this spring. According to some reports, the dismissal was related to beating of serviceman in the building of garrison. Sahakyan was appointed the Chief of Military Police in December 2011.
