YEREVAN.- Armenia will import about 20 tons of “super elite” wheat seeds from Russia, Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said during the government meeting on Thursday.
Premier Tigran Sargsyan noted it is for the first time that Armenia imports “super elite” seeds instead of previously imported “elite”. Earlier Armenia used to import wheat and barley seeds so as to distribute among farmers then to be returned from the next harvest.
The government also plans to buy a new consignment of diesel fuel to sell it to farmers at subsidized prices. A similar program was implemented in spring.
Finally, the government plans to approve a program of granting subsidies for local fertilizers to be produced by JSC Vanadzor-Khimprom starting from September.
