YEREVAN.- This year Armenia is marking the 100th anniversary of Anoush opera. The first performance took place on August 4, 1912 in Alexandropol, today’s Gyumri.

A five-act opera was composed by Armen Tigranyan based on the poem written by famous Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan.

The opera is inspired by Armenian folk music and culture. It was first staged in Yerevan’s Opera and Ballet National Academic Theater in 1935, in 1935 it was performed in Moscow.

The anniversary of Anoush will be first celebrated in Gyumri where it was staged for the first time.
