YEREVAN. – Pre-electoral shots were exchanged yet again in Armenia’s Gyumri city, in the lead-up to the country’s local government elections to be held in September, Hraparak daily reports.

“Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan’s son Spartak, who returned to Armenia from Russia several days ago, is again mentioned among those involved [in the fire exchange].

According to the information being disseminated in the city, Spartak and his close ones argued with some youth who were supporting mayoral candidate [and Prosperous Armenia Party member] Samvel Balasanyan, and, subsequently, shots were fired.

Shirak Region’s Police Chief Karen Babakekhyan likewise corroborated this fact in an interview with our reporter, but he did not give names or details. He solely noted that the circumstances of the incident are being ascertained, and that there are no casualties or injuries,” Hraparak writes.
