YEREVAN. – Any Turkish mediation or intervention attempt with respect to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks is ruled out, Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandian said during his joint news conference Tuesday with Argentinean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Héctor Marcos Timerman. 

In response to a news reporter’s observation that Turkey’s FM and several other officials are stating yet again in recent times about mediating in the Karabakh peace talks and even holding the respective negotiations in Istanbul, Edward Nalbandian noted:

“Did those numerous meetings, which were held in a variety of countries and were concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh [conflict’s] settlement, not lead to the expected result because they were not held in Istanbul?”

“Turkey’s mediation or intervention attempts on the matters concerning its neighbors have never yielded a positive result, [and] just the opposite. And with respect to settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, it was said numerous times—and not solely by Armenia—that Turkey cannot have any mediating role in this matter,” Edward Nalbandian concluded.
