YEREVAN.- On Tuesday Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan made a working visit to Shirak region to attend the opening ceremony of Gyumri city newly built and multidisciplinary medical center opening, which took place on Oct. 26, 2010. The president got familiarized with implemented works.

During the visit Serzh Sargsyan was informed that the center will provide extensive diagnostics capabilities, possesses latest equipment, operating rooms, departments of emergency and intensive therapy and comfortable rooms. The doctors of the new institution can also get professional consultations from specialists of Yerevan and abroad. The building of the medical center was funded by World Bank’s "Modernization of public health" project, co-financed by the Armenian government.

During his working trip the president also visited Gyumri city Austrian maternal hospital. During his previous visit to the hospital on Apr. 7 Serzh Sargsyan learnt about its conditions and existing issues which he promised to improve. On Tuesday the president got familiarized with carried out works and the progress of his orders given during his last visit.

Gyumri’s Austrian maternal hospital was renovated and equipped with medical equipments and furniture. The Austrian side also had its contribution in providing modern hospital equipment for the reception, intensive therapies, diagnostics department and operating rooms. Nowadays hospital meets the criteria of modern standards.
