STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Acting FM Vassily Atajanyan issued a letter to Eamon Gilmore, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, in connection with Ramil Safarov’s extradition to Azerbaijan and his being granted pardon there, NKR MFA press service informs.  

“Official Baku is again launching actions toward failing the peace process for settling the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict. Ramil Safarov’s extradition to Azerbaijan and his being granted pardon in that country is the next proof of the fact that Azerbaijan conducts and encourages, on state level, the policy of Armenian-hatred and fascism.     

Azerbaijan manifested yet again that it does not intend to follow commitments, and its primary objective is to carry out a new genocide against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) and to completely exterminate its population,” Atajanyan’s message reads in particular.

The letter also expresses a hope that “the OSCE and its individual members will condemn Azerbaijan and take corresponding actions.” 

“We reinsure our allegiance to the peaceful settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict,” NKR Acting FM’s message specifically states.

Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier that Ramil Safarov, a lieutenant in the Azerbaijani military, was extradited on August 31 from Hungary, where he was serving a life sentence—and with no expression of either regret or remorse—for the premeditated axe murder of Armenian lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan, in his sleep, during a NATO Partnership for Peace program in Budapest back in 2004.

As expected, Ramil Safarov’s return to Baku was welcomed, as was his act of murder, by the officials of president Ilham Aliyev’s government and much of Azerbaijani society, and the Azerbaijani president immediately granted him a pardon.

And Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan announced on August 31 that Armenia is suspending its diplomatic ties with Hungary.
