YEREVAN. – The first international Wikipedia conference kicked off in Armenia, and numerous presentations will be delivered during the event.
On the first day of the conference, the attendees will specifically discuss the content of Wikipedia in Armenian and the language development as well as the using of this boundless encyclopedia in public schools.
In the words of Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees member Ting Chen, Wikipedia’s Armenian version is actively developing. “The number of Armenian-language articles has doubled in 2011 alone,” he stressed.
“The Wiki conference is being held in Armenia for the first time, and this is a great opportunity for local specialists and authors to get familiar with the projects of the Wikimedia Foundation. By organizing this conference, we pursue the following objective: Increasing the number of activists of the Armenian Wiki society, helping to the spread of free content, and contributing to the establishment of a knowledge-based society,” Wikimedia Projects Coordinator for Armenia, Susanna Mkrtchyan noted.
